Mass grave of victims of genocide of Azerbaijanis near Guba region faces the threat of landslide due to sewage waters from nearby houses. Sewerage waters have accelerated destruction of bones of the dead in a mass grave discovered in April 2007, Qahraman Agayev, senior researcher at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan said.
Agayev noted that some skulls are already deformed. Real evidence of crimes committed by Armenian Dashnaks and Bolsheviks against the local population at the beginning of the last century might be lost if urgent steps are not taken to process bones with chemicals.
Staff of forensic and pathologic anatomy office of the Ministry of Health has processed 7 thousand bones taken from the graves with drugs. In addition, construction of the dam between the grave and nearby Gudialchay River is nearing end. A total of $ 1million manat has been allocated under the presidential decree to construct a memorial complex in the mass grave site.
