Best-selling novel by Khaled Hosseini will be translated into Azerbaijani language. The project is implemented by the "Ali and Nino" publishing house with financial support from the U.S. embassy in Azerbaijan, the publishing house said.
Khaled Hosseini is an American writer of Afghan origin. His debut novel "The Kite Runner", published in 2003, became an international bestseller, which sold more than 12 million copies worldwide. "The Kite Runner" is the story of a boy named Amir who desperately tries to find common ground with his father, and forget the horrible incident in his childhood. The novel is set in Afghanistan, the fall of the monarchy until the collapse of the Taliban regime, and then in California. Another theme of the book is the ethnic differences in Afghanistan between Khazars and Pashtuns, as well as migration experiences of Amir and his father in the U.S.
The novel ranked 3rd in the bestseller list in the U.S. in 2005. The novel was filmed under the same title in 2007. "Khaled Hosseini tells us lively and vibrant history, reminding us how long his people fought for the victory over the evil forces,” it says in a The New York Times review.
The U.S. embassy in Azerbaijan has sponsored translation of various American books into Azerbaijani over the past years. The book will be released in April 2011.
