10 November 2010 [17:45] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijani pilgrims who left for the Hajj by plane have started to perform Umra (small Hajj). The pilgrims have already arrived in Mecca, Caucasus Muslim Board spokesperson Rahima Dadasheva said. One group of pilgrims, which left for the Hajj by bus, will reach Mecca today. The second group will arrive tomorrow.

About 2,000 pilgrims from Azerbaijan will perform Hajj this year. About 1,200 went by bus and 800 by plane. One Azerbaijani pilgrim Hanbali Atakishiyev fell ill and died in the Syrian city of Sham on Nov. 6. Although he was provided with immediate medical care, doctors failed to save his life.

She said the deceased individual was brought back to Baku on a Turkish Airlines flight upon his family's request on Nov. 8. She added there have been no complaints about health of the other pilgrims.
