Azerbaijan starts whiskey production

Azerbaijan-based Tovuz-Baltiya Company will start to produce whiskey by the end of this year, general director of the company Naig Mammadhasanov said.

According to him the company finished the application of new technologies and as the result the company produces fruit and berry wines: “We repudiated bringing of alcohol from Ukraine, Iran and Russia and produce vodka using our crude material. We started production of new brand of alcohol from watermelon, quince, pomegranate and other fruits”.

He also noted that the current produced products are exported to Japan, Poland, Germany, Ukraine, Russia and Belarus: “We’ll start to produce whiskey under the brand Azeri Whiskey and export this and other products to Hungary, Czech, Estonia, China, India and Scandinavian Countries. We’re conduct talks and will export out products to these countries”.

According to him the annual productive capacity makes 5 mln bottles. Tovuz-Baltiya was founded in 1989.
