22 November 2010 [19:31] - TODAY.AZ
Some 38% of teachers in Azerbaijan will pass trainings on ICT in 2010, the Azerbaijani Education Minister Misir Mardanov said in his speech in an international conference on "Economic development through education and technology".

He said, in recent years it is planned to increase this figure to 67%, which means that 114,000 teachers will pass trainings. In the future, it is planned to hold multi-stage trainings for teachers, the minister also said.

"In 2005, when the project "ICT in Education" launched in Azerbaijan, only 10 and 11th calluses were taught computer science in theory. Now starting from the first class the students pass ICT lessons," Mardanov said.

The minister said that with increasing hours of lessons of computer science there is a problem of staff shortage. "One can say Azerbaijani universities don't train staff in this sphere, which creates serious problems," he said.

The event was attended by the Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov, UNESCO's advisor on ICT Marius Lukosiunas, representatives of Microsoft and the University of Edinburgh.
