Azerbaijani minister: Mobile roaming tarriffs are unnecessarily high

24 November 2010 [15:14] - TODAY.AZ
The Regional Commonwealth of Communications (RCC) has established a working group to address issues on tariff reduction for roaming services provided by mobile operators, Azerbaijani Communications and IT Minister Ali Abbasov said.

Abbasov said the forty-third session of the Council of the Heads of RCC Communications Administration was held in Baku on Nov. 23 to address the issue.

"The RCC combines the CIS and Baltic countries, as well as Eastern Europe," he said. "Decision-making within the organization can give its effect, since the communication administrations entering the RCC have leverage on mobile operators. Now we will work hard in this direction, "he said.

According to Abbasov, the working group will hold direct talks. He also expressed confidence that roaming rates will be reduced.

"Today, roaming rates are unnecessarily high, which is unacceptable," Abbasov said.
