Fares for interstate passenger trains will be lowered in Azerbaijan starting from January, 1, 2011, Azerbaijan Railways spokesperson Nadir Azmammadov said.
According to paragraph 6 of Article 5 of the Agreement on the Interstate Passenger Tariffs, railway administrations have the right to set any coefficient of indexation of base rates for the carriage of passengers, baggage and cargo through its territory, as well as the cost of tickets for second-class trains, he added.
"Given the requirements of Article 5 of the Agreement on the Interstate Passenger Tariffs, fares for long-distance passenger trains moving towards the north will decrease by 13-20 manat,” Azmammadov said.
