"Initial Information Conference" was held within TEMPUS program "Reforming Interpreting and Translation Studies in Azerbaijan" project at AUL - PHOTOS

On November 24, “Initial Information Conference” was held at the Conference Hall of Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL). Professor Samad Seyidov, the rector of AUL, Perviz Bagirov, the head of the national TEMPUS office in Baku, Zinyat Abdullayeva, representative of the Ministry of Education, Jala Garibova, vice rector on International relations of AUL, representatives of Embassies functioning in Azerbaijan and professor-teacher staff and students of AUL took part in the Conference.

Taking the floor professor Seyidov spoke of the importance of TEMPUS program, and added that AUL had had strong and effective educational ties with European universities for a long time. He said that the coordination of TEMPUS program by the Republic of Azerbaijan among European universities was a great success in the field of education of the republic.

Seyidov mentioned that in the next educational years halls provided with teaching equipments for Translation faculty would be opened at AUL, and directly it would improve the level of education in the above mentioned faculty, and then added that this project would enhance reforms, integration of educational system of Azerbaijan with the world educational system.

Vice rector Jala Garibova had a presentation on “Reforming Interpreting and Translation Studies in Azerbaijan” project, spoke of the program directions, and said Azerbaijan Universities and organizations, Essex University, University of Leipzig, Strasburg University, Milan Linguistics Institute were involved in the project.

She thanked the Ministry of Education for support in realizing the project, adding that reforms in professional translation and interpreting would provide high quality in the coming educational years.

Perviz Bagirov, the head of the national TEMPUS office in Baku, Zinyat Abdullayeva, representative of the Ministry of Education spoke about the significance of the project and wished success to everybody. At the end of the conference the students gave questions they were interested in.

It should be mentioned that “Reforming Interpreting and Translation Studies in Azerbaijan” project of Azerbaijan University of Languages won in the competetition announced by European Union (EU), TEMPUS IV, the 3rd Calling. This is the achievement of Azerbaijan Educational System. The aim of the project is to make reforms on translation teaching, and develop teaching and training process.
