
Three Azerbaijanis were subjected to forced labor in Poland this year, head of the Interior Ministry's Combating Human Trafficking Department Javad Shikhaliyev told Trend today.
"One of the crimes registered by the department in 2010 is associated with forced labor," he said. "Three Azerbaijani citizens were subjected to forced labor in Poland."
He added that the department filed a criminal case into the incident. An investigation is underway. Last year, three cases of forced labor were registered in Russia, he said. According to the head of the department, no incidents of foreign nationals being forced to work in Azerbaijan were found this year.
The Interior Ministry disclosed 70 cases of human trafficking in 2010. He said 34 people were accused in these cases. Roughly 34 victims of human trafficking were revealed.
"Most of these victims have entered rehabilitation, and 27 were placed in special shelters operating under the Interior Ministry," he said.
He said the government plans to increase the amount of compensation given to victims of human trafficking. Currently, the amount is 200 AZN.
