Number of planted trees to reach 10 million in Azerbaijan in 2011

The number of the planted trees will be increased up to 10 million in Azerbaijan in spring 2011, Huseyn Bagirov, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, told media.

Bagirov said that the ministry intends to increase the share of the taken seedlings up to 85%, whereas this figure was 73 percent last year.

"Roughly 90 percent of the seedlings is grown by the ministry, some are imported from Turkey," he said.

2010 was declared the Year of Ecology upon Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's decree. He noted that the implementation of the drip irrigation project is under completion in Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources planted trees in an area of 60 hectares on the slope of Bail in Baku on Saturday.

"These measures were taken for landscape gardening. It covers up to 60 hectares," he said.

He said that fir, vine, creeping juniper were planted on the slope.
