
Secretary-General of the National Commission of Azerbaijan for UNESCO Gunay Afandiyeva attended an international scientific-practical conference “Modern regional policy: home and foreign experience and prospects” held in Tatarstan`s city of Kazan on November 24.
Afandiyeva made a report on Azerbaijan`s regional policy as part of UNESCO cooperation.
Afandiyeva spoke of Azerbaijan`s economic development, as well as cultural, educational and scientific projects being implemented in the country, adding “Azerbaijan`s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, goodwill ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP Mehriban Aliyeva always pays special attention to development of these fields”.
She also touched upon Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, saying “Armenia occupied 20% of Azerbaijani territory, and destroyed all cultural and religious monuments in those areas”.
The 3-day event was co-organized by Russian UNESCO affairs commission, Tatarstan government and the country's leadership.
The event brought together general secretaries of the UNESCO affairs commissions and national coordinators on the project “UNESCO associated schools” of CIS and Baltic states, as well as Tatar officials, including Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Culture, Head of the Committee of the country for UNESCO Zilya Valeyeva, Minister of Education and Science Albert Gilmutdinov and Minister of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism Rafis Burganov.
