23 December 2010 [16:55] - TODAY.AZ
The Azerbaijani Education Ministry has established an informational database on orphans.
"The Education Ministry has established an information database on children who need families," Education Minister Misir Mardanov said at an event dedicated to the project, "Establishment of a Mechanism to Transfer Children to Families and Provide Them with Alternative Care."

According to the minister, in the second half of 2010, eight children have been sent to live with families. The database has information on 27 more children. Presently, 46 state orphanages are raising 9,874 children. Of them, 3,860 reside in these facilities.

The Azerbaijani Education Ministry, Labour and Social Protection Ministry, State Family, Women and Children Committee and UNICEF are working jointly in the framework of a memorandum on cooperation as part of the projet.

The project is implemented within the State Program to Transfer Children from Orphanages to Families and Alternative Care in the Azerbaijan Republic (2006-2015) in two pilot districts of Baku -- Surakhani and Khazar.
