Narrow roads of the capital, principled attitude of drivers and pedestrians towards each as well as incomplete knowledge of traffic rules are one of the major causes of road accidents and traffic jams in Baku, Chairman of the Center for Regional Development, Professor Chingiz Ismailov said based on results of a survey conducted among 1,500 respondents in Yasamal, Khatai and Sabail districts of Baku.
Some central roads need to be broadened, the expert added.
Another important cause of traffic congestion and accidents in Baku is the concentration of a large number of vehicles in the capital, he noted.
According to official figures, there are 950,000 vehicles in Azerbaijan with the nearly 90 percent of them being concentrated in Baku.
According to the survey, more than half of respondents are satisfied with the quality of roads in Baku.
About 65% of respondents are unhappy with the installation of traffic signs. According to the expert, conflicting road signs are installed on some sections of roads.
