Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin passed Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's gratitude to Caucasus Muslims Office Chairman Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade during a meeting in Baku. Medvedev thanked the religious leader for his attention to the issues mentioned in a letter dated Dec. 20, the Russian Embassy in Baku said.

In his letter to the Russian president, the spiritual leader of Caucasus Muslims expressed concern over the unrest in Moscow and other Russian cities on an ethnic basis. The unrest took place in the center of Moscow on Dec. 11 after a Russian football fan was caught up in a scuffle with residents of the North Caucasus. More than 30 people were injured.

Dorokhin reiterated Russia's willingness to cooperate closely with the Caucasus Muslims Office and Azerbaijani state agencies to fight extremism and religious radicalism.
