Azerbaijani MP: Every citizen should join fight against corruption

The whole nation should join the fight against corruption to curb it in Azerbaijan, Parliamentary Human Rights Committee Chairman Rabiyat Aslanova told Trend on Monday.

"The fight against corruptionis held not only on paper. If we want to live in a clean society that does not allow corruption, each of us must be a fighter in this area,” Aslanova said.

Corruption is not an abstract concept, it involves two parties, she said. Aslanova noted that society should strongly condemn any manifestation of bribery.

"Today, the existence of any element of corruption in Azerbaijan is unacceptable. There is a need for serious change in society's attitude towards this issue. The undertaken measures are serious steps toward recovery and cleaning of our living environment, aimed at creating public awareness about the unacceptability of such manifestations," Aslanova said.

An enlarged meeting of the Committee on struggle against corruption was held under the chairmanship of Presidential Administration Head Ramiz Mehdiyev on Jan. 27, 2011 upon President Ilham Aliyev’s order.
