Man detained for smuggling cigarettes from Azerbaijan to Iran

Police of the Iranian checkpoint Germi during the operation, conducted against cigarette smuggling on the border with Azerbaijan, arrested a person, Iranian FARS news agency reported.

According to the information, the person, who loaded 400 boxes of cigarettes of foreign production on horses, was arrested when crossing the Azerbaijani border with Iran. Smugglers were two, but one managed to escape.

Police seized 400 boxes of cigarettes. The website does not report about what country’s citizen the arrested man is.

The information also indicates that the Iranian police of the Bilasuvar checkpoint arrested two individuals involved in smuggling alcoholic drinks from Azerbaijan to Iran.
