Azerbaijani FM urges citizens not to travel to Japan

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry warned the country’s citizens about the complex situation in Japan. The ministry urged them to refuse from trips to this country.

Following the devastating earthquake in Japan and the tsunami on March 11, the country faced an emergency situation and danger of radiation. In this regard, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry asked citizens not to travel to this country.

Azerbaijani citizens, who faced problems in this country, are recommended to appeal the Azerbaijani embassy in Tokyo, the ministry reported.

The death toll in Japan has reached to 6,539 people, the Kyodo news agency reported.

Several Azerbaijani citizens temporarily residing and studying in Japan have already left the country and returned home after the natural disaster, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Japan Azer Huseyn told Trend.

The embassy provided them with the necessary assistance, he said.

The diplomatic mission has already appealed to Azerbaijani students in Japan and stated about its readiness to provide the necessary assistance to them to return home.

Huseyn said over 50 Azerbaijani citizens temporarily live and study in Japan. About 30 live in Tokyo. He said no Azerbaijani citizens were killed.
