Surgery conducted on open heart of infant in Azerbaijan for the first time

A surgery was conducted on open heart of a infant in Azerbaijan for the first time. The operation, conducted in Guba medical-diagnostic center, was the first operation of this kind in the history of Azerbaijan medicine, the press service of the Social Development Department of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan said.

As part of a humanitarian action held at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, with financial support of SOCAR, starting from March 16, at the Central Hospital of Oil Workers, a team of high-skilled surgeons under the leadership of the head of the center for cardiovascular diseases of the Hospital, Doctor of medical sciences, Rashad Mahmudov, begun conducting open heart operations , which will be made for 9 patients.

On the first day of the action, the operation was conducted over the father of a martyr, invalid of Karabakh war, 62-year old Rafig Geybatov, an IDP from Shusha city, four-year-old Nazrin Khalilova and one-year-old Madina Ibrahimova. All three operations were conducted successfully.

On March 17-18, surgery will be conducted for the resident of Shabran district 29-year old Khadijah Abdulova, residents of Guba - 55-year-old Saadat Mammadrzayeva, 54-year-old Safar Huseynov, four-year old Gulshan Mammadova, 10-year-old Zamir Niftiev and 9-year old Guldjahan Veliyeva. All persons selected for surgery suffer from coronary heart disease and congenital heart disease. It is expected that after the surgery, all patients will return to normal life.

Mahmudov said that as a logical result of social reforms conducted by the country's President Ilham Aliyev, so far, open-heart surgery has been conducted for more than 200 patients, angiographic examination was conducted for more than 500 patients at the modern medical-diagnostic centers constructed in various regions of the country.
