The issue of establishment of an Association of Insurers of Azerbaijan (AIA) special committee that would have processed the insured’s complaints is on the agenda of a meeting of the ACA founders to be held on Friday, AIA Observation Council Chief Azer Aliyev said on Wednesday.
"It seems quite real to establish such a committee. There are needed only desire and willingness to establish a system of work with disgusted clients within the frames of the insurance community", said Aliyev.
He said a number of insurance companies think decisions to be taken by such committee will not be fair and will only defend the interests of those insurance companies whose representatives will join the committee.
"But I disagree with this. In such case, we should display distrust in all committees. But in reality, participants of such structure must be professionals of the insurance business and specialists enjoying authority among all insurers. We must not forget that rights and duties of every insurance company are specified by legal provisions and that interests of insurance companies must be observed solely in accordance with the law", said Aliyev.
Facts of illegal refusals of payments exist and should be struggled with, he said.
"No notification from the Ministry of Finance should be waited for since otherwise insurers will have to pay a higher price. Today, the majority of the population think the entire insurance companies are swindlers and thereby refuse to pay when an insurance case occurs. But this is not so. Very many insurance companies make payments on their duties. And this is not 100 or 1,000 manat. This is the millions of manat", Aliyev said.
At the initial stage, decisions to be made by such a committee will not have the force equal to that of the State Insurance Supervision Service, he said.
"Currently, all decisions taken by the AIA are of recommendation nature. However, this will help insurance companies understand the needs and cares of clients better since there will be direct contact, with no State Insurance Supervision Service or court as a mediator. And this will take cheaper cost. I think such consultations should be free-of-charge", said Aliyev.
