
Funds allocated to employers in Azerbaijan for labour protection increased by 15 percent in 2010, the Azerbaijani Confederation of Trade Unions chairman Sattar Mehbalyev told media.
He said that funds allocated for workers’ labour protection, increased by 25 percent.
"It is very interesting that employers try to increase the funds allocated for the protection of health", he said.
"We are concerned that the cases of deaths in construction and energy happen very often," he said. "We together with the Labour Inspectorate under the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare carry out preventive work to prevent such incidents."
He said that specialists on labour protection must work at these organizations. They must instruct employees daily.
"Our organization holds workshops for training these specialists. Every year about 100 people are trained in this area," he said.
He said that the Confederation of Trade Unions receives more than 160,000 complaints and appeals annually.
"They are mainly concerned with the illegal dismissal of employees, improper calculation of pensions and late wage payments," he said.
He said that after these appeals, more than 200 employees were reinstated with the assistance of the Confederation of Trade Unions.
