
Traffic accidents killed 17 children in Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2011, the General Directorate of the State Traffic Police Department reported.
Some 49 children and teens got injured in 697 traffic accidents recorded in the first quarter of 2011. Ten people of the dead and 30 people of the injured were pedestrians.
Traffic accidents recorded in the throughout republic killed 204 people and injured 730 people, the report reads. The number of traffic accidents increased by 180 cases (34.8 percent), the number of deaths - 25 people (13.9 percent) and the number of the wounded - by 212 people (40.9 percent) compared to the same period 2010.
