Mass ascent up Heydar Peak organized

A mass ascent up the Heydar peak, located in the national park Shahdag, took place in connection with the 89th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev.

The climb has drawn a lot of participants. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources received many applications for the event which took place from May 4. The biggest teams taking part are a team from the Air and Extreme Sports Federation with 241 sportsmen and the Azerbaijani Mountaineering Federation with 75 climbers.

The entrance fee to the reserve for local residents is usually 26 manat and 52 manat for tourists, spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment Irada Ibrahimova told Trend today.
"The entrance to the reserve is free from May 4-11 in connection with the ascent dedicated to the memory of national leader," she said.

The whole route from the village of Khinalig to Heydar Peak was prepared by the relevant agencies of the Ministry of Environment to ensure the climbers safety.

Heydar Peak is located at an altitude of 3751 metres on the Gizil Gaya range of the Greater Caucasus Mountains.

Besides experienced athletes, staff and journalists of the Ministry of Environment climbed this year. The Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Huseyn Bagirov also participated in the ascent.
