Combined competition in gymnastics, acrobatics and tumbling runs in Baku - PHOTOS

The combined competition in gymnastics, acrobatics and tumbling has begun at the Olympic sports complex Hovsan in Baku today. Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Ismail Ismailov has congratulated the participants and wished them success.

This year has been one of the most successful for Azerbaijani sports, Ismailov said.

"This year Azerbaijani sportsmen have gained success in all spheres of sport," he said.

He added that Azerbaijani sportsmen have achieved historic victories at the Summer Olympics in London this year. Azerbaijan took the 30th place in the world, in Europe - 15th, in the Islamic world - third.

He stressed the President's concern for the athletes gives results and Azerbaijan has become one of the leading sports countries in the world.

"Today, all regions of the country have sports facilities," he stressed. "The interest in the sport is growing every day."

Ismailov was confident that the Azerbaijani gymnasts and acrobats will also win medals at the Olympics.

A record number of gymnasts - 117 people participate in the tournament of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation.

They represent five sport societies of the capital - Baku Gymnastics School, National Olympic Sports Lyceum, Nizami district sports school, Neftchi and Tehsil societies, as well as Sumgayit and Balakan.

The qualifying competition will be held on the first day (acrobats and jumpers), on the second day - the final round in the all-around competition. The winners will be determined each day of the tournament.

These competitions are held for the first time in the arena of one of the Baku Olympic sports complexes - Hovsan settlement. The Azerbaijani Gymnastics Federation has experience in holding such events at various venues. A number of them have been successfully held in the Olympic sports complex in Gusar and Shagan.
