Azeri karate fighters get batch of medals

Azerbaijani fighters have brought home a clutch of seven medals, including one gold, from the 40th European Cadet & Junior Karate Championships in Konya, Turkey.

The gold medal came from Tural Aghazade weighing in at 68kg who defeated Russia’s Evgeny Plakhutin in the final encounter in the Under-21 event.

Asiman Gurbanli won bronze for Azerbaijan in the over 78kg division.
The day earlier Azeri fighters claimed one silver and four bronzes earning the country 7th place in the overall table with a total of seven medals.

Turkey topped the medal rankings of the championships, followed by UK and Spain.
