Azerbaijani cyclist takes bronze medal of Tour de Langkawi in Malaysia

The Synergy Baku Cycling squad clocked up an important result ahead of five WorldTour teams and many other experienced squads in the final race stage of the Tour de Langkawi in Malaysia.
The squad had a solid showing at Le Tour de Langkawi with Dane John Ebsen finishing 8th overall, 2min 55sec behind overall winner Julian Arredondo (Nippo-De Rosa).

Cyclist Anuar Manan earned the team`s first podium when he finished third in the final stage.
Synergy Baku beat Champion System, Garmin Sharp, Omega Pharma QuickStep and the rest of the field, earning important exposure.

According to the team`s technical advisor David McQuaid, the squad`s performance has earned a lot of attention. “Other teams are coming to our staff, teams like Blanco, Greenedge etc, asking about Synergy Baku, because they know from the media that this team came about in a short space of time” he said.

The team has an international race calendar which will take the around the world, with Australia next on the cards.

Melbourne-based team manager Jeremy Hunt has opted to bring the six Azeri riders to Australia for training and racing, with the team likely to compete in some of the National Road Series races.

“Working with young athletes and helping them to achieve their goals and become professional bike riders is what I enjoy,” said Hunt.

“It was me who suggested to take the six Azeri riders to my base in Melbourne and train and test them, to make them suffer and ultimately get them into the best shape of their cycling lives before the Tour de Azerbaijan at the start of May, which ultimately is a huge goal for the team.”
Anuar Manan, Malaysian origin rider who is regarded as one of Asia`s top young sprinters, is one of several riders who have been confirmed as new signings for the Champion System team.
