Gotze out of pitch in final

Borussia Dortmund will be without one of its big stars in Saturday's final at Wembley. The German club has officially announced that attacking midfielder Mario Götze has not recovered from his injury in time for the clash against Bayern.

The first round of bad news for Jürgen Klopp's men comes days before the most important game of the season for the German side. Götze, who was injured in the second leg of the semi-finals against Real Madrid, was devastated that he has not recovered in time.

"The final was my target and I've battled to get fit over the past few weeks. I'm extremely sad that I won't be able to help my team in such an important game. I have every confidence in my teammates and will travel to London with them to support them from the sidelines."

The loss of Götze will take the edge off a game in which the German player was set to be the centre of attention, as he took on his future team, Bayern Munich. Götze will not be able to bid farewell to the Dortmund fans in the way he would have wanted, by putting in a decisive performance in the final.
