Azerbaijani weightlifters become European champions

Azerbaijani youth weightlifting team captured a victory in the 9th European championship held in Czech Ciechanow. Athletes won 6 gold and 4 bronze awards and were declared the best of Europe.

Trend reports citing the Weightlifting Federation of Azerbaijan that Belarus took the second place and Russia the third place.

By winning 10 awards altogether and ensuring the second place among teams with 515 points, Azerbaijani weightlifters lagged behind only Russian sportsmen who gained 566 points in this nomination. Armenia’s total points made up 498 which ensured their third place after Azerbaijan.

In the weight category below 85 kg Nailkhan Nabiyev finished second in the European championship with 395.9 points.


Allahyar Abishov-two bronze awards in the weight category up to 50 kg.

Pasha Ibrahimli-three gold awards in the weight category below 56 kg.

Elkhan Aliguluzade-one gold and one bronze awards in the weight category below 62 kg.

Nailkhan Nabiyev-two gold and one bronze awards in the weight category below 85 kg.
