Azerbaijani mountaineers reach top of Lenin Peak in Pamirs

Azerbaijani mountaineers reached the top of the Lenin Peak in the Pamirs and hoisted the country`s flag there, President of the Azerbaijan Mountaineering Federation, Israfil Ashurlu has said today at a press conference. He noted the climb was devoted to the memory of great Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibayli.

Ashurlu noted the expedition was the continuation of a special project realized with support of Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, President of the Azerbaijani Youth Organization of Russia Leyla Aliyeva, Youth and Sports Ministry and Azerbaijan Mountaineering Federation.
Speaking at the press conference, mountaineers praised the fact that famous sportsman Nikolay Totyamin participated in the climb.

As part of the project, Azerbaijani mountaineers plan to reach the Communism and Korjenevski peaks and the Himalayas and the Alps.
