Gymnast Aliya Garayeva leading in world championship in France

The 31st world championship in rhythmic gymnastics started in French Monpellier yesterday.

On the first day of the contest, a part of gymnasts perform with a hoop, and another part with a ball. Azerbaijani representatives Aliya Garayeva, Anna Gurbanova and Zeynab Javadly demonstrated the exercises with a hoop. Garayeva received 28.175 points and is a leader among those who stepped up with this object in the morning session. Gurbanova is seventh with 25.500 points and Javadli is eighth (25.450).

The closest rivals to Aliya are Neta Rivkin of Israel (27,800) and Ukrainian Alina Maximenko (27,774). Bulgarian Silvia Miteva (27,475) performed among famous participants with a hoop.

According to the world championship schedule, tomorrow Garayeva, Gurbanova and Javadly will compete in the qualification with a hoop to be followed by the finals in this kind of the program and with a hoop.

15 tickets for 2012 Olympic Games will be at stake in individual contests in the all-round finals. Meanwhile, each country will be able to win maximum two licenses. In the group contest to be held in the last two days of the competition, six tickets to London will be at stake. Here, Azerbaijan will be represented by Anastasia Prasolova, Jeyla Guliyeva, Aelita Khalafova, Stefanie Trajanova, Sabina Abbasova and Eugenia Jidkova.

The Azerbaijani gymnasts are coached by Mariana Vasileva, assisted by Dinara Gimatova and Yasena Kyumjiyeva. Among referees, Azerbaijan is represented by Natalya Bulanova and Leyla Gambarova. The sportswomen who failed to reach the Olympic Games via the world championship will be able to take part in the qualifier round in London to be held in January.
