Brazilian footballer wants to play for Azerbaijani national team

Secretary General of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan, AFFA, Elkhan Mammadov has voiced his opinion about Neftchi footballer Flavinio’s offer to play for the national team of Azerbaijan.

"It is a prerogative of the head coach to invite players to the national team,” Mammadov told AFFA website.

“So, the response to Flavinio’s offer will depend on the head coach. Flavinio is Brazilian footballer. If the head coach decides to take the footballer to the team, AFFA will deal with legal aspect of the issue. There are a number of FIFA rules and requirements for a foreign footballer to play for the national team.”

In the meantime, it is also reported that AFFA has not yet adopted a final decision regarding the head coach.
