Azerbaijani society in Denmark appeal to UN Secretary General

15 March 2011 [10:00] - TODAY.AZ
The Society of Azerbaijanis in Denmark "Vatan" addressed a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon  and Danish Parliament in connection with the murder of a 9-year-old Azerbaijani child by Armenian sniper, the Azerbaijani State Committee for Work with Diaspora reported on Monday.

A 9-year-old resident of the Orta Garvand village in the Agdam region was killed on March 8 as a result of a ceasefire violation by the troops. Fariz Badalov was shot in the head while playing in his yard. He was taken to hospital, but doctors failed to save his life, the letter reads.

No one is surprised by violations of the ceasefire regime by the Armenian side, the letter reads.

The Armenian military units violated ceasefire 50 times in February, and killed two Azerbaijani soldiers and wounded two others. The same number of soldiers was killed in January.

"No matter how sad it is, but the death of soldiers at the front is expected. However, the murder of a child by a sniper shot is unacceptable regardless of the status of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. We appeal to the UN to exert pressure on Armenia to meet its four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of occupied Azerbaijani territories and withdraw its troops from these lands," the letter reads.
