The Supreme Court of Azerbaijan, presided by judge Ilham Jafarov considered the appeal of editor-in-chief of Azadlyg newspaper Ganimat Zahid against the Baku Appellate Court, reports journalist's defender Elchin Sadikhov.
He said the Supreme Court considered the journalist's claim unfounded and passed a decision not to grant it.
Sadikhov noted that they are going to file a claim to the European Court of Human Rights.
The defender noted that the claim states the need to annul decisions, passed by local courts, pay a compensation to the journalist for violating his rights.
It should be noted that on March 7 the Yasamal district court of Baku, presided by judge Sudaba Mamedova, passed a verdict on editor-in-chief of Azadlyg opposition daily Ganimat Zahid and Baku resident Vusal Hasanov.
In line with the verdict, Ganimat Zahid was sentenced to 4 years in prison and Vusal Hasanov to 1.5 years. The Baku Appellate Court upheld the decision of the first instance court.
