There are plans to open TV channels in most regions of Azerbaijan before the parliamentary elections to be held in the country by 2010, said chairman of the Azerbaijan National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council Nushirevan Meherremli.

He noted that works in this direction will be held beginning from 2009.
"There is a proposal to open TV channel in the Shirvan region. Moreover, a TV channel will open in one of the regions in the Aran area. This can be in Imishli or Saatly or Beylagan. There is also a plan to open a new TV channel in Shamakhy", said Meherremli.
It should be noted that the plans to open TV channels in most regions are connected with the majority system of elections to the parliament. This is done for the candidates for deputies from the regions to be able to directly appeal to their voters by means of regional TV channels.
Moreover, Meherremli announced that experimental broadcasting of two regional TV channels Sheki TV and Yevlakh TV is currently underway.
"They have already received a license from us and they are now working to launch broadcasting. I think they will start broadcasting by the next year", said Meherremli.
