Head of OSCE Baku office: "Shutdown of foreign radio stations in Azerbaijan will cause a serious damage to media pluralism"

"Suspension of free broadcasting of foreign radio stations in Azerbaijan will cause a serious damage on media pluralism", said head of OSCE Baku office Jose Luis Guerrero, reports Day.Az with reference to the Institute for Reporter Freedom and Safety.

He said media pluralism is among the most important issues for the democratic life of Azerbaijan.

"Participation of such medias, as Azadlyg radio station, in this process is a positive step. Different positions and views are voiced here", said Guerrero.

Notably, chairman of the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council Nushirevan Meherremli announced that  broadcasting of foreign radio stations will be suspended in January of 2009.
