Imprisoned editor-in-chief of Tolshi Sado newspaper placed in digger

Editor-in-chief of Tolshi Sado newspaper Novruzali Mamedov, sentenced for high treason has been placed in a digger, said chairman of the Committee of Novruzali Mamedov's rights protection Hilal Mamedov.
He said on January 14 of 2009 Novruzali Mamedov was transferred from the Bail investigation facility to colony with a strict regime, where he was immediately placed in a digger for 15 days.

"This is caused by the so called resistance to jail keepers", said Mamedov.

He noted that the journalist will be released from the digger on January 29.

Notably, under the verdict of the court, Novruzali Mamedov is found guilty under article 274 (high treason) and sentenced to 10 years in prison. The official of the same newspaper Elman Guliyev was sentenced to 6 years in prison under the same article.

Novruzali Mamedov was sentenced on February 3 of 2007. The Yasamal district court passed a decision to imprison him for 15 days. On February 17 he was charged under article 274 (high treason) of the Criminal Court. Elman Guliyev was charged under the same article.
