Internet awarding ceremony Netty 2009 kicks off in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan Ministry of Communication and Informational Technologies held the first session of the Academy of the National Internet award Netty 2009. The event participants defined terms, rules and procedures of the contest holding.
According to Day.Az, the meeting participants defined that the premium will be held from February till May of this year, some changes will be introduced to the rules of registering the contest participants, a number of amendments to the rules of the contest and the composition of the Academy has been expanded.

Moreover, several additional decisions, aimed at the premium development were taken, in particular on opening off-contest categories under the auspices of the "2009 is a year of children in Azerbaijan"- nomination "Best children's website" and nomination "Best website about Baku" in the framework of the program "2009 - Baku the capital of Islamic culture. The off-contest nomination "Best design" is also on the list of additional nomination.

Moreover, beginning from 2009 the Netty Academy will declare the best project in the sphere of information technologies of Azerbaijan in a new honorable nomination "IT-event of the year". Authors of the projects and decisions, promoting development of international technologes in Azerbaijan and out of its bounds may become candidates for getting award in this nomination.

Notably, Netty is the first Azerbaijani professional premium in the IT sector, created to promote development of the national segment of the world network and IT-market. Netty started operation in 2004 and this year it marks its fifth anniversary. The premium is officially supported by the state structures, biggest Azerbaijani and international companies. The award is granted to the best websites in Azerbaijan in 11 nominations. Among the winners are both well known and influential websites and new projects. The premium is awarded in the honored nomination "For contribution to IT development" in the framework of the contest. In 2006 Minister of Communication and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Ali Abbasov became the winner by decision of the Netty Academy in 2006, Nuru Ahmedov, head of the biggest Telecommunication Operator of the country Azeurotel in 2007 and deputy minister of communication and information technologies Elmir Velizade in 2008.

The main advantage of the premium is its openness and democracy, as all candidates of the premium online are selected by public jurors, representing the main mass of internet users in the country. The final selection of winners is held by the Netty academy, represented by a wide range of influential IT specialists, responsible for IT development in Azerbaijan. Conduction of Netty traditionally ends in awarding winners, which is itself among the brightest, unusual and remarkable events of the year.
