Ahmet Misbah Demircan, Mayor of Istanbul's Beyoglu district, said on Monday that 4th Film Festival of the Turkish Speaking countries brought together geographies having historical and cultural ties.
Speaking at a news conference organized to promote the festival, Demircan said cinema was a means of communication boosting intercultural dialogue.
Demircan said Istanbul, which became the European Capital of Culture 2010, hosted very important organizations.
10 countries, 39 films and 28 film-makers from the Turkic world attend the festival that will stay open till February 18.
Participants will have the opportunity to watch the activities free of charge.
The festival demonstrates films from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan as well as autonomous republics of Tatarstan and Bashkortostan.
