Turkey raises security of PM after assassination intel

The Turkish interior minister said on Wednesday that Turkey was sensitive about the security of the prime minister.

Turkey's Interior Minister Besir Atalay said that the ministry had received tip-off about an assassination against Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"We should not always regard them important as we sometimes receive such tip-offs regarding not only our prime minister but also other people," Atalay told reporters.

Atalay said the ministry was taking all required measures for security of the prime ministry, and it was always cautious about security.

"We are more sensitive about security of our prime minister," he said.

Atalay also said the ministry had not received such a tip-off for a long time since this recent one.

Some press organs published news stories earlier on Monday that extraordinary security measures were taken for Erdogan following two tip-offs that a state official would be the victim of an assassination in two weeks.

The papers wrote that denunciator having the nickname of "Mehmet Ali" who had informed about the bomb laden lorry belonging to Turkish Armed Forces, alarmed Security Department with his denunciation that a high ranking state official would be killed in assassination in two weeks.

Bodyguards of Erdogan stepped up security measures when another unidentified denouncer said the prime minister was the target, they also wrote.
