The Azerbaijani Transport Ministry has launched a commission to check cargo and passenger transport security compliance with the regulatory framework, the ministry reported.
The commission will prepare and present proposals to Minister Ziya Mammadov to ensure transport safety, particularly in intra- and inter- passenger transportation.
The commission is to complete work within a month. Despite rapid development in the country's transport sector, several significant shortcomings remain in this area. Traffic accidents occurr while transporting passengers and goods mostly due to mistakes committed by drivers, the ministry said.
Serious and urgent steps must thus be taken to monitor the compliance of individuals and private entrepreneurs with the law, the ministry added. Specific attention must be paid to improving and optimizing bus routes, preventing individuals from driving without a license, and regulating traffic, the ministry said in a statement.
