The deal, signed in the Azerbaijani capital Baku yesterday, calls for the first batch of 200 buses to be supplied within six months, Daewoo officials said.
The agreement is part of a series of economic cooperation projects initiated by President Roh Moo-hyun's visit to Azerbaijan in May last year. Korea's Transportation Ministry sent a team of government officials and businesspeople three months later.
They reached an agreement with their Azerbaijani counterparts to revamp the mass transit system in Baku.
Daewoo International CEO Kang Young-won said support from both governments and Daewoo's brand power helped his company win the order.
"This deal will help improve the image of Korean buses in the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States," Kang said.
