Tutorship leads education in Baku

26 February 2007 [17:18] - TODAY.AZ
Today, Azerbaijan is enjoying fast social and economic growth and can afford to finance education so as to ensure that the development flag will be carried out ahead in the future.

Except or several negative tendencies, education is also developing quickly, APA reports.

However, everything begins from schools… When a pupil wants to continue his or her education in a higher education institution, it appears that his knowledge is not enough to actualize the dreams. And, parents look for a tutor in order to prepare [standardize] their children for university. That is why tutors are called repeatitor in Azerbaijan (a person who makes a student to repeat or brush up his knowledge).

Parents pay a lot for tutorship. If a tutor teaches a pupil individually, the fee is about AZN 100.

Besides, there are lots of courses in Baku to prepare students for universities and the fee per subject is AZN 10-20 while if you want to learn English you need to spend more.

The problem is that tutors are not registered as taxpayers and we can say tutorship is a part of shadow economy in the economy.

Every family ants to see their children well-educated and qualified and sacrifice a lot for education. If we take account of the financial position and living standards of average family in Azerbaijan, we can see it is not affordable for every aspirant parent to buy education. Tutors can only teach strategy to pass admission exams and it is not education meeting the standards of future. Experience of years prove that students cram and enter university, but don't reach the target.
