Matthew Bryza comments on Mammadyarov-Rice memorandum

"MoU on Energy Cooperation to be signed between Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on March 22 supports construction of 'new generation' pipelines for transporting energy resources, especially natural gas of the region to Europe," said Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Bryza.

He told the APA US bureau that memo is very important and 'new generation' pipelines envisage the additional pipeline that will ensure extension of Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline to Greece and Italy and other sub sea pipeline.

Bryza said that lines to Greece and Italy should be commissioned as soon as possible in order Azerbaijan to become alternative source providing Eastern Europe with gas.

Bryza stated that working commission will be established for this purpose and Azerbaijan is ready to realize serious ambitions.
