A couple of years back a little thriller called Stuck was released. Starring Mena Suvari and Stephen Rea, it was loosely based on the real life tale of Chante Jawan Mallard, who struck and hit a homeless man with her car, causing him to get lodged in the windshield. Instead of doing the sensible thing and calling the cops, she drove home, apparently had sex with her boyfriend, and left the man to die.
Fast forward to Tokyo, Japan, where catering school student Michiko Sato decided to reenact the film with an elderly pedestrian. Although not intoxicated like Ms. Mallard, Ms. Sato is said to have told police she was simply shocked and, panicking, drove four miles home with the unfortunate 80-year old woman still lodged firmly in the windshield.
Shock or not shock, Ms. Sato is being charged with fleeing the scene after hitting someone with a vehicle and causing a traffic accident that ended up in the death of an individual. She’s facing some serious jail time (up to seventeen years) and a fine that amounts to approximately $22 million dollars.
