A tech-savvy sheriff's deputy in Florida used an unexpected tool to track down a suspect alleged to have illegally dumped a boat - he found him on Google Earth.
The Pensacola News Journal reports that Deputy Gregory Barnes used the aerial images after finding an 18 foot, 1 ton boat dumped about 15 miles north of Pensacola in western Florida.
Barnes used Google Earth to look at archived aerial pictures of the surrounding area in an attempt to find out where the boat had been housed before it was dumped - and he eventually saw a fuzzy image of the vessel at Dwight Everett Foster's home.
Authorities say Foster admitted dumping the boat and his son later removed it. Foster faces a $5,000 fine and up to five years in prison.
