A man has set sail on a 1,000-mile voyage across Chinese waters in a boat made out of 2,010 plastic drinks bottles. Tea house owner Xia Yu, 37, hopes to travel from the port of Xiangtan in Hunan province to Shanghai for the Expo festival in the vessel, Sanxiang Metropolis News reports.
Xia said: "Every day customers would consume a lot of drinks in my shop, and leave the empty bottles behind. I thought it was such a waste and one day, I came up the idea of building a boat."
According to Orange UK, the boat - dubbed The Noah's Ark - was assembled with 50kg of steel wire, uses seven sails and has enough seats for a six-man crew. Xia's journey will take a planned 45 days.
