Oppositionist against demands of formation of elections commission on parity basis

20 July 2005 [10:25] - TODAY.AZ
The demand of the opposition on the formation of elections commissions on parity basis is not right, Avez Temirkhan, the chairman of the Central Committee of the Liberal Party.
According to Temirkhan in such a format (50% authorities and 50% - opposition) the opportunities of the opposition for victory at the elections equal zero. «Suppose, the authorities agree with the opposition to form the elections commissions on parity basis. But if any party declares itself as pro-governmental, what to do then? It means the authorities will anew gain absolute majority. It would better for opposition to avoid such step. We suppose the parity to be comprised of parties which overcame 1% barrier in the previous elections. T would be more after and democratic,” Temirkhan noted. (Trend)

15 members of the Central Elections Commissions representatives from the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, 3 parties represented at the parliament, 3 – participants pf the previous parliamentary elections who did not pass 3% barrier and 3 – independent members.
