The Taiwan issue is a red line that cannot be crossed in China–US relations, Azernews reports.
This statement was made by Lin Jian, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, during a briefing where he commented on the visit of Taiwan’s Vice President Lai Ching-te (Lai Qingden) to the United States.
"The actions of separatists are incompatible with peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait," Lin Jian said. He emphasized that Beijing urges Washington not to support Taiwan's independence, to sever official relations with the Taipei administration, and to respect the principle of "One China," which asserts that there is only one China, and Taiwan is part of it. Additionally, Lin urged the United States not to ignore the separatist movements on the island.
"Everyone should correctly assess the determination, will, and ability of the Chinese government and its people to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country," Lin Jian concluded.
This issue remains a major point of tension between China and the United States, as both nations navigate their complex diplomatic relations. China's stance on Taiwan is a critical aspect of its foreign policy, and Beijing continues to warn against any moves that might encourage Taiwan's formal independence, which it sees as a threat to national sovereignty. Despite international pressure and global geopolitical dynamics, China has consistently emphasized its firm commitment to reunification.
