Turkish government to re-seek signatures for constitutional reform

05 April 2010 [14:46] - TODAY.AZ
Turkey’s governing Justice and Development Party, or AKP, will seek signatures for constitutional changes from its deputies again after more than 50 withdrew their names from the draft.

The move follows a row over the signatures when Parliament Speaker Mehmet Ali Şahin was reported to have signed the draft, NTV reported citing party deputy Suat Kılıç.

Şahin, who is an elected member of the party, is required to be impartial in managing Parliament’s work. The party remains committed to the legal changes, Kılıç said.
