Today, Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement in which it strongly condemned holding of the so-called "parliamentary elections" in Nagorno-Karabakh occupied by Armenians, Cihan agency reported.
Turkey does not recognize the "elections" in Nagorno-Karabakh, to be held by Armenian separatists on May 23. The norms of international law are violated in the occupied Azerbaijani territories, Turkish Foreign Ministry said.
By holding these "elections" separatist regime violates UN Security Council's resolutions and the principles of the OSCE Minsk Group. Turkey supports the territorial integrity and political unity of Azerbaijan. The holding of "parliamentary elections" in the occupied territories is unacceptable, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.
"These 'elections' have no legal basis. The results will not be recognized," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.
Earlier, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry expressed a formal protest in connection with the "elections" in Azerbaijan's Nagorno-Karabakh.
"The holding of such elections is a flagrant violation of relevant provisions of the Azerbaijani Constitution and the norms and principles of international law, as they are conducted without indigenous Azerbaijani population of Nagorno-Karabakh. Thus they do not have any legal force," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.
Former OSCE Special Representative for South Caucasus, now representative of the Paris office of the Institute for Democracy and Cooperation Maurice Bono will observe the "elections", the Armenian media reported.
