A 5.0-magnitude earthquake has struck the northeastern Iranian city of Raz, but there are no reports of any casualties or damage yet, Press TV reported. The earthquake shook the city in North Khorasan province at 9:56 p.m. (1726 GMT). Several quakes of a similar magnitude have occurred in Iran over the past few weeks.
Last month, at least 700 homes were damaged when a 5.8-magnitude earthquake jolted the southeastern Iranian province of Kerman.
The worst quake in recent times was a 6.3-magnitude earthquake that hit the southern city of Bam in December 2003, killing about 30,000 people - approximately a quarter of its population - and destroying the city's ancient adobe citadel.
